What would Dismember sound if they were slightly more brutal? Carnal Tomb is your answer.
Who are you and what do you do in your band?
Hey I’m Marc, I play Guitar and do half the vocals. Yves our bassist does the other half.
When/where was your band formed?
The idea of the band spawned in late 2013, but the name wasn’t properly decided. The name Carnal Tomb and our two man line-up was formed in early 2014 . Since June 2015 we are 4 in the band.
Why did you choose to play Death Metal?
It’s the music I enjoy most myself, especially old school death metal. So why not play some myself?
How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?
I compose most of the music. But our bassist wrote two songs for our upcoming release. Generally we work on those ideas as a team, everyone brings in their thoughts and we try to create the best songs possible.
Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.
The lyrics fit to the music, we deal with the classic themes; horror, death, the undead…you get the idea. Everything is an inspiration really, other bands, movies, literature. There is enough morbid shit on the internet. But I think that is what suits us and our kind of metal. I will leave deep and meaningful lyrics to the technical bands.
2015 saw two releases from you, Inevitable Decomposition EP and a compilation wrapping up your releases so far. What´s next for Carnal Tomb?
We are going to enter a local studio to record our debut full length in 2 weeks time. It will feature 9 new songs and will be released on CD by Memento Mori Records. Hexed Cemetary Records will handle the tape release. Other than that we are working on some new merch designs and obviously we want to promote that album with a few concerts!
How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?
I think there is a lot going on. There are quite a few German death metal acts getting some exposure and it’s great to see those bands and their labels get bigger. As long as the underground stays active I’m fine, as I enjoy smaller concerts much more than huge festival gigs. The same thing applies to other countries in my opinion. But I don’t like it when bands all record in the same studio, have their music mixed/mastered by the same people because they end up sounding the same.
What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?
We are still searching for a Label to release our album on vinyl and a few gigs this year, but apart from that we are just going to see what happens!
Name another Death Metal band from your country that everyone should hear.
Cryptic Brood for the old schoolers and those who like technical death should listen to Eohalis!
Support underground death metal, go to shows, buy merch. Spread it like the pest!
