Tales Of The Tomb
Who are you and what do you do in your band?
I am the lead vocalist my name is Connor Adams.
When/where was your band formed?
Good old Edmonton Alberta, we actually started writing the songs on an acoustic guitar in the guitarist/vocalist Corey Skerlak’s basement. After writing a few tunes we decided to get a band together and make a attempt and being a real band! We first recruited our bass player Bryn who comes from the grind cord scene in Edmonton and plays in another band called Preschool Shooting. After that our drummer John joined the band after searching the city high and low! Tres our second guitar player joined the band after we had recorded our first ep and had a few shows under our belt.
Why did you choose to play Death Metal?
We choose to play death metal because of the raw power that it holds the blast beats that tighten your chest and the gruesome screams that sooth your soul. We also found it as the best platform to help us paint the picture we were looking to make with our songs. We want to remind people reality is scary then any TV show or book you’ll find out there.
How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?
For the most part we all bring ideas to the table and bounce ideas off of each other for the best product. We like to make sure everyone has a influence in each song. I find that the best music is made when everyones opinion is taken into account. We may have a member write the majority of this song or that song. But everyone always puts in there two cents to ensure the song turns out the best.
Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.
We find our drive to write this music from all of the things people in the world don’t like to talk about because it’s shocking or scary but for the fact that it is real, and we are not condoning these killings or murders in anyway it is just a topic for us to release our creativity threw. We know that the world is a horrible scary place to live in. Tragedy and misfoture can affect anyone, no matter if you keep saying “that will never happen to me”. The stories we tell through are music portray this very concept.
You have just released your debut EP – VolumeOne: Mortars. Tell us about it.
Our new ep is about serial killers with the first song being Snowtown written about the Snowtown murders. This song is about Australias worst serial killer. He dismember and raped his victims. Also forcing others to take part in his gruesome acts. The second song is The Pig Farmer it’s about one of Canada’s worst serial killers, Robert William Pickton. It’s a story about how he would lure woman back to his farm and murder them in cold blood. Disposing of the bodies in a word chipper and spreading the remains throughout the farm. Even feeding them remains to his pigs and selling the meat afterword. The last song on the EP is about Harold Shipman who was also named the Doctor of Death. He would prey on senior victims and is said to have murdered 200+ victims by overdosing them with morphine. He would then falsify records to cover up his acts. The word Mortars itself is from a language not spoken anymore and loosely translated means secretive and unlawful killing, and was later evoled into the word murder. We think ties in perfectly with the EP.
How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?
I think that our death metal scene is strong but has lost a lot of its following to new types of metal that are being produced across the world but like I said good music is good music weither it be death metal or metal core or grind core if your band is good people will show up to your shows regardless of what genre you label yourself as
What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?
To continually grow every year get better and not just for us for our fans and the music scene in general we also are looking at starting to record our next volume in 2016 and tour Canada also in 2016. We want to release as much music as we can, create awesome merch people will love.
