Who are you and what do you do in your band?

I am Kevin, lead guitarist and main composer for Necrocosm.

When/where was your band formed?

We started the band with 3 remaining members of a previous band that retired in Fall of 2011. Our lineup was finally completed with 5 members Kevin (lead guitar), Adam (drums), Cisco (bass), Brent (rhythm guitar), and Zach (vocals) in late-mid 2012. Matt took over on bass in early 2014.

Why did you choose to play Death Metal?

As Kevin became the main composer for this new band, his natural inclination was to write mainly melodic death metal. All the founding members of course were on board with the idea of writing melodic death metal, staying true to the classic Gothenburg style in the 90’s. But also putting our own ”modern” spin on it.

How do you compose your music? Does only one guy do everything or does everyone contribute?

Typically I get a guitar riff idea, and if it’s good enough, that riff will lead off into other ideas that can support a full song eventually. Once I get enough material and arrange it, I will record a scratch track and send it out to the guys. Then at practice Adam will write his drum parts while we all go over learning the song.

Tell us about your lyrics, writing, inspiration etc.

Zach: It’s kinda cyclical, the inspiration for the lyrics come from the music. I get the song and the lyrics are written based on the feeling I get from the tune. The subject matter is just from all the movies, music, and books I’ve watched, listened to, and read through the years.

Is there an ideology behind your band?

Mostly just pure, unadulterated, unfiltered hatred and disgust for all the ills of the modern world. We hate humanity, religion, overpopulation, fucked up governments, etc. Basically any and all bullshit in the world, we fight against it.

How do you see the state of Death Metal music these days in your country and in general?

I guess Death Metal is doing okay over here. Tough to say anymore. It’s strange actually. Technology has enabled bands to be more self-reliant than ever. People can record amazing sounding albums in their bedrooms. They can release these albums on their own for minimal cost. But it seems that bands are struggling to advance now more than ever before. There’s an ever-increasing torrent of new bands cropping up all the time. And it seems few people ever listen to them, including Necrocosm. Pretty much everyone is having a tough time, whether they are a signed band on a big label or not. So the road from the bedroom to the arena stage is getting evermore difficult to accomplish.

What are your long term plans as a band? What do you want to achieve?

Realistically, we just want to keep existing. We didn’t get into this for the fame and fortune (LOL), so as long as we can keep things together we will be here. Long term plans would include some kind of record label interest, and global PR/distribution/touring happenings, but that doesn’t seem to be in the cards for us.
